Geoffrey Mboya “Resilient Mboya”

Youth Ambassador

What is your role at VI and what do you enjoy most about your job?

I oversee our social media platforms and work closely with the communication teams to create content and increase engagement on our platforms. Furthermore, I research current issues that serve VI mandate and vision. I truly love the creative freedom it gives me. Social media management is such an exciting field since it keeps me posted with trends, I am always in a constant state of learning, and that’s the part I love the most.

What are the biggest challenges you see in your country related to animal health?

Our lack of actionable policy implementation mechanisms pose a great challenge to animal health as a nation. This in turn results in animal health services being understaffed and under-resourced especially in remote regions, where the majority depends on livestock farming to serve the basic needs.

How has VI helped you in your life/career?

Since the day I joined VI, their continued support is the one thing I can always count on. They have continually shown me patience, guidance, and motivation. I couldn’t appreciate it enough.

Where do you see VI being most helpful in veterinary capacity building for you and for your country? What can VI do to have the greatest impact?

My hope and goal is that VI will work with several partners to strengthen veterinary services, rebuild its systems and institutions. One approach, for example, is engaging in a multi-level capacity development strategy which would concentrate on institutional as well as individual capacity development in order to create an environment that would, over time, help communities.

What are you most proud of?

To be part of the large efforts of our global community working around the clock to ensure veterinary services reach communities across the regions we work in.

What are you most excited about in your work with VI?

The opportunity to work on sites and have the chance to interact with wildlife in their natural habitat, in addition to working alongside a highly motivated team.

Where do you see the future with VI being involved?

I’m exceptionally delighted about being a part of VI Kenya office, because I’d love to see our efforts double locally. I’m equally excited about the prospects of us supporting sustainable programs and strengthening local partnerships with communities in animal health.
